Return & Exchange Policy
We want you to love your purchase. We want you to give us a 5-star review, tell all your friends about us, and purchase from us again. With this in mind, we’ve developed our return and exchange policy to make sure the process is quick and simple for you, while at the same time recognizing that we’re a small business with finite time and resources.
If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org within 30 days of receiving your purchase to let us know why and we will do our best to issue a refund or exchange. If the item you purchased is defective or damaged, we guarantee a full refund or exchange once we verify the presence of a defect or damage (e.g. by photograph, in-person examination). If you’re unsatisfied with your purchase for any reason other than damage or defect, please reach out to us and we will do our best to (but cannot guarantee that we will) issue a refund or exchange.
Refund vs. exchange
If we accept a refund or exchange, we will do our best to give you a choice of whether you would like a refund or an exchange. However, we may only be able to offer you one or the other, not a choice.
Sending an item back to us
Before we are able to issue a refund or exchange or as a condition of issuing a refund or exchange, we may require that you send the item and your receipt/invoice (the original or a copy) back to us. We may require this for several potential reasons, including:
- To verify the presence of a defect
- To determine the cause of the defect to prevent it from recurring
- To repair the item for return to you or resale to another customer
We will do our best to (but cannot guarantee that we will) cover all shipping costs and fees associated with shipping the item back to us. Items eligible for refund or exchange must be shipped to our workshop at:

If we have not already verified the presence of a defect, we will do this upon receipt of the returned product and make a determination whether to issue a refund.
Issuing a refund or exchange
If we issue a refund we will refund your purchase price and a credit will be applied to your original method of payment within 30 days of notifying you that a refund has been issued. If we accept an exchange, we will complete a new order of the same item or a different item, based on your preference, within 30 days of notifying you that an exchange has been accepted.
Nature of an exchange
If an exchange is accepted, you will have the choice of exchanging your originally purchased item for a repaired version of the same item (in the case of a defect) or another item from our shop. If you choose to exchange your originally purchased item for a repaired version, we may return a repaired version of your original item to you; that is, we may decide that we can only repair your originally purchased item rather than sending you a new item.
If the cost of the new order is greater than the original order, you may be responsible for paying the difference. If the cost of the new order is less than the cost of the original order, we will do our best to (but we cannot guarantee that we will) refund you the difference. If we do refund you the difference, the difference will be applied to your original method of payment within 30 days of notifying you that an exchange of the item has been accepted.
You will not be responsible for any shipping costs or fees for any items that we ship to you as a part of an exchange.
Defects detected after 30 days
If a defect in an item becomes apparent or develops after 30 days of receiving your purchase, we cannot guarantee a refund or exchange. However, please still email us at email@example.com and we will do our best to issue a full or partial refund or exchange.
Water damage during shipping
We intentionally use sustainable and ecofriendly packaging to reduce the negative impact of shipping on the environment. This means using mostly paper-based packaging that is either compostable or curbside recyclable rather than plastic products that do not have a closed-loop cycle of use. Paper-based products, however, are more susceptible to water damage than plastic-based products.
To provide some water resistance to our packaging, we wrap most of our small boxes in thin-film plastic. We use a layer of thin-film plastic (rather than the more conventional “poly mailers”) because it uses less plastic and is recyclable along with other thin-film plastics (e.g., many grocery stores have drop-off bins). This plastic layer provides some resistance to water but is not 100% waterproof. Thus, there is still a small chance that our products will be damaged by water during shipping, particularly for our paper-based products (e.g. stationery).
If your order is damaged due to water, we guarantee a full refund or exchange according to the policy detailed above for the damaged items in your order; that is, we consider water damage to your order during shipping to be “damage.” If you think that your order will be particularly susceptible to water damage during shipping (e.g. you live in a wet climate and your package drop-off location is uncovered), please let us know in the order comment box when placing your order and we’ll use extra measures of water protection.
